As an organization known for taking the initiative in new and emerging technologies as it supports our nation’s critical challenges , Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHUAPL) has taken its cloud initiatives head-on.
We have identified key architectural drivers and strategy for cloud computing and then developed a cloud computing roadmap early in the process. This roadmap called for a series of small discovery projects and external collaborations with peer organizations as well as technical experts across APL.
JHUAPL was able to continuously learn about cloud computing without huge investments in technology or commitment to a single vendor. By keeping the roadmap in view and revising it where appropriate, JHUAPL implemented cloud capabilities that are directly tied to organizational needs. A brief discussion of ongoing initiatives will also be presented.
Finally, the presentation will describe JHUAPL’s appointment of a Service Manager for Cloud Computing, ensuring a balanced focus on both operational needs and future enhancements.
