The definition of cyber security engineering is the proactive engineering design of physical systems with cyber security incorporated from the beginning of system development. In contrast, the current domain of cyber security and associated academic programs focus on the mitigation of risk to cyber assets, often reactively and typically independent of the underlying systems. Cyber security engineering is an important quantitative design methodology to be used in all industries to include but not limited to transportation, energy, healthcare, infrastructure, finance, government (federal, state, and local), and defense. The proposed program is focused on the cyber security engineering of integrated cyber-physical systems.
